The Commissioner for Local Government in Kano State, the Honorable Murtala Sule Garo, has resigned following the announcement by the state government that all political appointees who are contesting in the upcoming 2023 general elections should resign.
According to a statement issued by the government on Saturday, “Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje OFR urged all political appointees running for elective offices in the forthcoming 2023 general elections to resign from their respective positions.
The directive said, “They are given between now to Monday 18th April 2022, to resign.”
To comply with Section 84 (12) of the newly amended Electoral Act.
However, A source close to the former commissioner told Trust Reporters.
“Hon. Murtala Sule Garo has completed the signing of his resignation letter to the Kano State Government. He will officially submit the letter to the Kano State Government today as per the order.” the source says
On the other hand, “Hon. Musa Ilyas Kwankwaso, the Commissioner for Rural Development has resigned to run for the Federal Parliament representing Kura / Madobi and Garun Malam.” According to Abubakar Aminu Ibrahim
Similarly, Comr. Ahmad Dauda Lawan SSA Public Infrastructure of the Kano State Government has resigned to run for House of Assembly Tarauni Local Government Area. This is contained in a Resignation letter issued by Ahmad Dauda Lawan with his signature.
“Your Excellency, by Section 84 (12) of the Electoral Act. 2022,
I wish to respectfully and formally tender my resignation from the position of Senior Special Assistant Public Infrastructural Development to enable me to contest for the seat of Member, Kano State House of Assembly representing Tarauni Local Government,”
“My resignation took effect from 4th April 2022. I appreciate the decision of Your Excellency for appointing me to serve under your dynamic leadership and the entire cabinet for the confidence reposed in me.” Says Ahmad Dauda Lawan
