The women chairperson of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Betta Edu, has congratulated Governor Ben Ayade on his victory at the Federal High Court in Abuja today.
In a congratulatory message from her office in Abuja, Dr. Edu, Cross River State Commissioner for Health, described the success as a major sign that Sen. Professor Ben Ayade was a very special choice of the Lord, and he was clearly chosen and loved by his people and generally accepted by the Cross River dwellers as he continued to perform his special duties.
“I would describe today’s conclusion as a success for Democracy and great hope for the good people of Cross River State with strong assurance and every positive thought to reach a higher level and achieve greater progress. There is hope in the legal system.”
She pledged her continued support to Governor Ayade’s government, adding that she would ensure good relations with the stakeholders of the Cross River State All Progressive Congress to ensure the party’s victory in the 2023 general elections.
It was reported on Thursday that the Federal High Court in Abuja had dismissed a petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) declaring Governor Ayade’s seat invalid as he had left PDP to the party All Progressives Congress (APC).
Dr. Betta Edu said in a statement that Governor Ayade’s defection from the PDP to the APC was “by the Constitution”.
“Affirmation of Governor Ayade by the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja is an act of God and nothing can be done about it.” She added.
She also called on the refugees to use the remaining months of the Governor’s term in office to continue to support and work with His Excellency the Governor to complete the democratization process at the state level.
“As a state, God has blessed us with a leader who will never be distracted, no matter what, if you look at Governor Ayade he is not bothered by anything and he is never distracted.
A person to whom God has given a gift will never see humiliation. “The claim will not have any impact on decisions that are in line with the constitution as the courts have reaffirmed today.”
