Buhari has ordered the distribution of 40,000 tons of grain to the needy for the Easter and Salat celebrations

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the immediate export of 40,000 tonnes of various grains to the state treasury to assist the needy in Nigeria during the upcoming Easter and Salat celebrations.

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Muhammed Mahmood, made this known during a press briefing at the State House after a private meeting with Buhari at the Presidency in Abuja on Tuesday.

Mahmood said he had been invited by the president and instructed to distribute the goods to the needy, adding that he hoped this would alleviate the effects of rising grain prices in the market.

According to him, 12,000 tons of the approved 40,000 tonnes will be given to the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Community Development for distribution to refugees across the country.

“I came here this afternoon as a result of a presidential warrant.

“Muhammad Buhari issued the order with the same compassion and agreed to export the grain from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development,” Mr. Mahmood said.

“To make cereals cheaper for people to celebrate – Ramadan, Easter, and Salat.

“We will also donate grain to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, to contribute.
